Abstract
In the bachelor’s thesis, I research euthanasia and the view of the elderly in the Slovenian space. Through a chronological review, we can see that in Slovenia, discussions on euthanasia have been active mainly for the last few years, which is mostly because of individuals who wanted to apply for euthanasia in Slovenia in the pre-death stages. There are substantial differences among many experts in the very understanding of euthanasia already. The proponents mostly believe that every individual should have the right to his or her death, while the opponents believe that the extents of legalized euthanasia are dangerous or unacceptable for Slovenian society. I continue with an empirical analysis of the thoughts and views of the elderly on euthanasia, with a person at least 65 years of age being considered an elderly person. By the method of in-depth semi-structured interviews, I ascertain that most of the elderly support the legalization of euthanasia. The arguments for criminalizing euthanasia mostly stem from religious beliefs. More specifically, I also want to find out how the elderly would experience their old age if euthanasia was legalized in Slovenia. Here, I ascertain that 75% of the elderly would feel more reassured because euthanasia would be an emergency exit for them.
