Abstract
Glavni cilj varnostnih programov je preprečiti poškodbe in pojav bolezni na delovnem mestu zaradi neupoštevanja navodil varnega in zdravega dela. Tradicionalni pristopi so mnogokrat reaktivni in se reševanje težav lotimo po pojavu nezgodnega dogodka. Sodobne prakse pa temeljijo na učinkovitejšemu pristopu k zgodnji prepoznavi, odkrivanju in odpravljanju nevarnosti, še preden pride do povzročitve poškodb. V magistrskem delu so predstavljene poti, kako postati strokovnjak za varno in zdravo delo v Republiki Sloveniji, in to primerjano z zahtevami v tujih državah – v Avstriji, Nemčiji in ZDA.

Title:Importance of a safety engineer in the work process
Abstract:
The main goal of safety programmes is to prevent injuries and occurrence of a disease at a workplace due to not following the safety and health protocol. Traditional actions are usually reactive and we deal with problems after the mishap occurs. But contemporary practise are based on more effective actions towards early signs, discovering and dismissing dangerous situations before they cause injuries. This masters thesis presents ways how to become an expert in a field of safe and healthy work conditions in the Republic of Slovenia, which are later compared to requirements in foreign countries – Austria, Germany and USA. To be able to ensure safe and healthy work environment, a worker is obligated to pass two technical examinations. For this reason a survey has also been conducted and you can find an analysis of data of how successful participants are in these exeminations and thus finding advantages with students enrolled in a Technical safety programme. Requirements of a future safety engineer that must be acquired during the period of education and later qualification in a field of safe and healthy work conditions, seem not to be as strickt as abroad. Judging by the collected data there is a minimum requirement of university education of adequate natural science and successfully passed technical exeminations. But in some other countries this post also requires work experience, which means entering work field is quicker and easier. Nevertheless there is a need for cooperation and going towards the same goal – firstly ensuring and secondly executing a safe and healthy work process. This way we make sure that work place is accommodated to the worker and not the other way around. This makes work process easier, quicker, the worker will be apriciated and will be more willing to come to work. The main goal of this master thesis is a detailed representation of a Technical safety study programme, which through education and field excursions introduces students to first interaction in future work environment. There are conclusions and recommendations presented at the end, of how this field of studies could be even more motivational and atracttive to the future generations.
