The master's thesis deals with the effectiveness of the implementation of measures for the protection of the external Schengen borders with Croatia. The main burden of border protection is imposed on the police. Mass migrations and government measures are causing great dissatisfaction among the people. The research challenge was media coverage of the fear and dissatisfaction of the population and the neutrality of the Slovenian police in managing illegal migration. As many activities were adopted at the state level, we decided to review the measures and work of the police. Based on the research questions asked, an assessment of the effectiveness of the latest measures is given. So many different research methods are used.
Relevant legal regulations, professional and scientific literature, book sources, statistical data and efficiency indicators from 2014 to 2019 were collected and analyzed, with the help of which we presented the methods and forms of work in the Slovenian police in protecting the external borders. Based on the examination of the collected material, substantiated analyzes and comparisons with selected countries were the responsibility of the three research groups for the goal thus set. The findings of the analysis and comparisons with selected countries show that Slovenian police officers were relatively effective in protecting the external state borders. Even if police officers received a large number of illegal migrants on a daily basis, this would not eliminate the problem of illegal crossings, as migration is a global problem that is not calming down.
An example of technical border protection in Croatia can be used as fundamental technical updates to protect our border. If they were more accepted by the public, a panel fence with cutting wires was erected. The key topic, the Slovenian police in terms of human and financial resources, is doing well, which is also shown by opinion polls on people's satisfaction with the work of the police.
