Abstract

Title:Textile objects and preformative art
Abstract:
In this Bachelor’s thesis, the connection between textile art and performative art is explored. The main goals of the thesis were to explore different aspects of textile use in different kinds of performative arts and to explore the use of textile as a costume or an element of scene in contemporary dance. Other goals include: looking into the use of textile in other performative art forms, such as happening and performance that both try to put aside classical stage form; exploring the relation between performer and textile as an object of his art manifestation. The experimental part is divided in three parts, each exploring a different option of connecting body movement and textile. In the first part, the exploration is very direct: a textile object is made using a weaving technique and different kinds of threads, wires, with the addition of plaster. The weight of the body using different kinds of moves transforms the primary shape of the textile object and the resulting shape is later placed in a gallery space. In the second body of work, the stress is on the conceptual use of a textile object. During the process, the textile object degrades to such extent that it can only serve as a tool of association that leads the movement of the body. The third subproject leads back to the use of textile where body and textile connection is indirect. It focuses on the video, photo and audio remains of the previous two projects. With the use of computer manipulation, it transforms them and presents them in a new way, as digitally printed pictures on velvet and jeans, as a video and light installation. Even though the experimental part is divided in three different subprojects, they are built sequentially and represent a continuation and upgrading of the same project.
