Abstract

Title:Influence of cementation conditions on gear surface integrity
Abstract:
Carburization is a chemical-thermal process of steel, which means that before the process, the gas concentration in the process time must be adjusted to a certain temperature. During the process, we needed to control all parameters to ensure the structure after hardening. In any process of hardening, it was very important to position the parts in the batch because of the internal stresses while the parts are in the process of cooling and deformation after cooling. In this work we performed metallurgical analysis, measurement of hardening and deformations at different locations of the gears at different parameters of the computer of the quenching furnace for hardening in a protective atmosphere. Heat treatment was performed under the same conditions for 10 gears, where we measured the external deformations with respect to the vertical and horizontal placement in the basket. The deformations of the lying placed pieces were bigger than the deformations of the upright ones, which was to be expected. Three gears were machined only to observe different calcination temperatures according to the temperature microstructure diagram according to the material composition. Measurements confirmed the theoretical assumptions for low or too high temperatures within respect to the ideal austenitization temperature for a certain percentage of carbon in steel.
