Abstract

Title:Minorite Church in Ptuj between 1945 and 1968
Abstract:
This master’s thesis is based on an analysis of published and unpublished archival sources dating from the period between 1945 and 1968 that refer to the Minorite monastery with the church of St. Peter and Paul in Ptuj. The archival resources used are located at the Information and Documentation Center for Heritage (Informacijsko-dokumentacijski center za dediščino) in Ljubljana and on the premises of the Minorite monastery in Ptuj. Based on a review of archival documents and professional scientific literature, as well as an on-site examination of the building, the first part of the thesis presents a stylistic analysis of the building throughout history in a concise manner. The following chapters are devoted to the chronology of events from 1945, when the church was a military depot and was then blown up just before the end of the war, until 1968, when various institutions deliberated on its fate. The final part of the master’s thesis provides a brief commentary on the role of conservationists and protection of historical sites after World War II.
