The article is devoted to the presentation of Slovene language at Vilnius University (VU). The history of teaching Slovene, starting with the academic year 1995/96, and the current state of teaching Slovene in Vilnius are briefly presented. The period of teaching Slovene language and literature as a compulsory subject on a separate study programme has been marked by the implementation of numerous cultural projects in collaboration with the Centre for Slovene as a Second or Foreign language, and the traditional Slovene weekend (2005-2017), the goal of which was to deepen the knowledge of Slovene language, literature and culture in Lithuania. An important role in the development of the intercultural relations between Lithuania and Slovenia is also played by translations of Slovene literary works that are prepared by pre-degree students of Slovene Studies at VU.
