The contribution deals with the way the dictionary treats the lexeme ljubezen and some other semantically and derivationally connected lexemes. First the word formational and semantic productivity of the lexeme ljubiti will be dealt with, using the methodology of "gradual word formation", with particular attention to the meaning(s) of the most frequently used compounds and words derived through affixation. Following that, there will be: (a) a comparative analysis of the dictionary entries on the lexeme ljubezen in the two editions of The Dictionary of Standard Slovene (SSKJ) as well some foreign dictionaries (Croatian, Czech, Polish, Russian, English, German); (b) the relationship between the collocation imeti rad and ljubiti will be discussed; (c) the differences which the relevant dictionary treatment underwent between the first and second edition of the dictionary will be described, as a consequence of social changes; and (d) improvements to the dictionary entry for future dictionaries will be suggested.
