Abstract
Magistrsko delo poskuša bralcu približati pojem semantičnega brušenja in izpostaviti njegov pomen v jezikoslovju.

Title:Semantični vidiki angleških in nemških kolokacij tipa pridevnik + samostalnik in njihovih slovenskih ustreznic
Abstract:
The master’s thesis deals with adjective + noun collocations in English and German and the occurrence of the phenomenon of semantic tailoring. Semantic tailoring is shown on the examples of collocations that are listed under the same sense of an adjective. There are six adjectives chosen, three in English and three in German, and three collocations per adjective. The aim of the research is to analyse the sense of the adjectives when they occur in a collocation and compare it to the dictionary sense under which the collocations are listed and thus show the occurrence of semantic tailoring. The thesis also compares the translation equivalents of the collocations in German or English and in Slovene in the hope of providing some insight into the occurrence of semantic tailoring and how it is realised and preserved across different languages. The thesis also attempts to give attention to the phenomenon and to how it could be a valuable tool in language study.
