Abstract
Navadna konoplja (Cannabis sativa L.) pridobiva priljubljenost zaradi svoje vsestranske uporabe v različnih industrijskih sektorjih, vključno s prehrambnim sektorjem, zaradi prisotnosti maščobnih kislin in drugih bioaktivnih spojin.

Title:
The importance of essential fatty acids in common hemp seed (Cannabis sativa L.)
Abstract:
Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is gaining popularity due to its versatile use in different industrial sectors including food sector due to the presence of fatty acids and other bioactive compounds. The purpose of this diploma thesis is to show farmers and consumers the importance of hemp seeds as food source. Hemp is commonly mistaken for drug due to the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol found in indian cannabis. For successful cultivation of Hemp you need very fertile soil. Amount and quality of seed yield depends of seed variety, cultivation and technology that specifically effect yield. Hemp seeds are rich in protein (20 to 25 %), fats (20 to 30 %), carbohydrates (20 to 30 %), fiber (10 to 15 %), vitamins and minerals. Fatty acids in hemp seeds represent one of the nutritionally high quality sources of energy. They show a protective effect against various diseases. Hemp seed contains predominantly polyunsaturated linolenic among them (omega - 6) linolic (18:2n-6) and γ-linolenic acid (18:3n-6) as well as omega 3 alpha-linolenic (18:3n-3) and stearidonic acid (18:4n-3). Omega 6 omega 3 ratio (3:1 value is optimal) inside reccomended value of 5:1. Omega 3 fatty acid are known to strengthens the immune system and affects humans and animals well-being.
