Introduction: The World Health Organization defines mental health as the state of well-being of an individual and only this enables him to successfully cope with everyday challenges. A person is aware of all his potentials which he also uses effectively. Hypnosis was considered a controversial method of treatment in the past. However, it is becoming increasingly desirable and useful due to its effective outcomes in both physical and mental health. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the importance of medical hypnosis in the field of mental health. Methods: The method of the descriptive systematic review was used, which was based on Slovenian and foreign literature. The search for articles took place via PubMed/Medline databases and the Cooperative Online Bibliographic System and Services (COBBIS. SI) and remote access to the Digital Library of the University of Ljubljana (DiKUL). Results: Medical hypnosis is an effective method in many conditions, such as anxiety, anger, depression, stress, sadness, various phobias, anxiety episodes, helplessness, and insomnia. Its success is further enhanced by a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy. Discussion and conclusion: Despite all stereotypes, hypnosis must be taken as an effective and successful therapeutic method. It is considered a unique method that is tailored to each individual. A nurse can establish a therapeutic interpersonal relationship based on understanding, experience, empathy, trust, and knowledge. Nurses must have awareness of this field, as they help to spread the use of medical hypnosis and eliminate prejudice.
