This master's thesis presents an analysis of the primary and secondary morphological and semantic adaptation of selected common Germanisms and Austriacisms to the letter <š> in Slovene and Bosnian, in comparison with their German originals. Linguistic adaptation is a procedure in which the foreign language material or the language material of the donor language is included in the language system of the recipient language and gets adapted to it. The analysis of the meanings of German models and their Slovene and Bosnian replicas is based on information from the following dictionaries: The German Universal Dictionary DUDEN - Universalwörterbuch (1989) and Digital Dictionary of German language DWDS – Digitales Wörterbuch der deutschen Sprache, the Slovenian Dictionary of the Slovenian Standard Language Slovar slovenskega knjižnega jezika (SSKJ 2, 2014), the online Dictionary of the Slovenian Standard Language eSSKJ – Slovar slovenskega knjižnega jezika (2016–2017), the Dictionary of the Bovec dialect Slovar bovškega govora (Barbara Kutin-Ivančič 2015), the Slovenian Etymological Dictionary (Marko Snoj 2015), the Dictionary of the Kostelsko dialect Kostelski slovar (Jože Gregorič 2015), the Dictionary of German loanwords in Slovenian Slovar nemških izposojenk v slovenščini (Hildegard Striedter-Temps 1963), the Growing Dictionary of the Slovenian Language Sprotni slovar slovenskega jezika (Domen Krvina 2014–2017), the Slovenian-German Dictionary Slovensko-nemški slovar (Maks Pleteršnik 1894–1895), the Dictionary of the Clothing Terminology of the Zilja Local Dialect of Canale Valley Slovar oblačilnega izrazja ziljskega govora v Kanalski dolini (Karmen Kenda-Jež 2007), the Synonym Dictionary of Slovenian Language Sinonimni slovar slovenskega jezika (2017), the Dictionary of Mountaineering Terminology Planinski terminološki slovar (2013), the Dictionary of German and Austrian loanwoards in Bosnian language Rječnik germanizama i austrijacizama u bosanskome jeziku (Nedad Memić 2006), the Dictionary of German loanwords in Serbo-Croatian Nemške izposojenke v srbohrvaščini (Hildegard Striedter-Temps 1958) and the Dictionary of German loanwords in the city language of Zagreb Nemške izposojenke v zagrebškem mestnem jeziku (Zrinjka Glovacki-Bernardi 1998).
The analysis of the morphological and semantic adaptation follows the adaptation pattern according to Filipović (1986) and the Stojić/Turk (2017) theory, which determine the rules and types of morphological and semantic adaptation. Every meaning of the Slovene and Bosnian replica is supported by an example taken from the online corpora.
The analysis proves that most of the replicas in both Slovene and Bosnian were morphologically and semantically adapted and developed according to the rules of their languages, namely by creating their own morphemes and new meanings that are in use in their mother tongues. As a result, there are more differences than common features with the German models.
