Kocbek often uses liquidation as a means to an end. Most frequently, these are political and preventative political liquidations. At first, Kocbek was against liquidations, but later started to perceive them as self-evident, thus accepting a part of the Communist ideology. What is more, he was indirectly involved in all liquidations carried out by the Liberation Front simply by being its member. In his short stories, the motif of liquidation is limited to the individual, while in his journals it involves the community, the collective. His collection of short stories Strah in pogum (Fear and Courage) and his journals Tovarišija (Comrades), Listina (Document) and Pred viharjem (Before the Storm) remain controversial, because the topics of the National Liberation Battle, partisanship and mass murders open a number of questions to which there is no single answer.
