Abstract

Title:Determining the diagnostic reference levels in conventional radiological procedures and computed tomography in Slovenia
Abstract:
Diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) are one of the practical tools designed to help protect patients exposed to ionizing radiation in medical imaging. They are quantitative values which allow comparison of radiation of patients in different institutions and countries can be compared with one another. This thesis outlines the importance of collecting the DRLs and their legal status. The method used for determining the DRLs' value and the associated dosimetric quantities is described. The DRLs in Slovenia were based on 36 examinations in the field of conventional radiography and 16 examinations in the field of computed tomography. We used data from the Orqa database, which is managed by the Institute of Occupational Safety (ZVD). In addition the focus was on determining the uncertainty of the calculated DRLs’ values, which was done by using two different methods and then comparing them with each other. Finally, we compared the results with DRL values obtained in some EU countries.
