Master thesis studies and offers a possible solution, which enables long-term coordination of the needs of tourism development and preservation of nature, which with its attractions, is precisely the reason for increased tourist interest. Bohinj is known for its unspoiled nature, with only limited architectural interventions, which have not yet overwhelmed the natural space, interwoven with tradition. The leading principle of proposed solution acknowledges the principles of environmental protection, tradition and qualities of local space, as well as principles of sustainable, balanced and coordinated development. In search for an appropriate solution, a number of interrelated and interdependent content was analysed. In-depth analysis of existing spatial situation is carried out, along with assessment of possible legal limitations of intervening in areas under special environmental protection. Several interests collide in the studied area: from the needs and interests of the tourists to other environmental and developmental problems. On the basis of all analyses and onsite observation, the process of identification of typical components of the Bohinj coastline was carried out. These homogenous areas were used as a basis for the elaboration of a comprehensive landscape architectural design of the lake's coastline. The concept enables long-term sustainable development of tourism while preserving the cultural heritage along with maintenance of the untouched natural view of the lake with its rich biodiversity. The proposed design offers a coherent and wholesome programme. The coastal area of Bohinj is therefore addressed in a comprehensive manner, down to the small details, which include design of additional urban equipment in line with traditional local specifics.
