Geocaching is an outdoor game, in which players search for hidden caches
at outdoor locations with the help of geocaching.com website and mobile
application. Players use the platform as an additional entertainment for the
recreational and touristic activities and consequently leave a huge amount of
data containing information about them and their movement on the platform.
These data can nowadays be scraped with the help of web scraping. The
main goal of diploma thesis is to obtain the data with web scraping, organise
it and recognise the patterns in the tourist movements who participate in
the game. Obtained data was analysed in three parts. First we checked
which places foreign users mostly visit in Slovenia and compare them to
places that Slovenian users visit most often. We found out that foreign users
mostly visit places in the northwestern part of the country, while visits by
Slovenians are more spread over the country. The aim of the second part was
to determine the number of foreign day-trippers in Ljubljana. We learned
that Ljubljana can expect up to three day-trippers for each overnight stay.
Lastly, we recognized the tourism flows in Slovenia, visualized them and
compared them to flows obtained in related work. We found out that most
repeated flows lie in the northwestern part of Slovenia.
