Abstract
Magistrsko delo obravnava tematiko gluhih in naglušnih oseb v povezavi s splošnimi knjižnicami.

Title:Services of slovenian public libraries for deaf and hard-of-hearing users
Abstract:
The master's thesis deals with the topic of deaf and hard of hearing people in connection with public libraries. In addition to services for deaf and hard of hearing users in public libraries, the focus is also on the wishes of deaf and hard of hearing people, how often they visit a public library, what type of material they read most often and their opinion about public libraries. Appropriate space and materials for these users are described, IFLA's guidelines for library services for deaf and hard of hearing users are defined and hearing impairment is addressed. An important part of the theoretical introduction to the master's thesis are the IFLA's guidelines for easy reading, as the deaf and hard of hearing people often have difficulty understanding the text that they have read. Data for our research was obtained with the help of a questionnaire filled out by the members of associations of the deaf and hard of hearing people throughout Slovenia and with the help of an interview, which was provided to those who are responsible for this user group in Slovenian central regional libraries. We also conducted an interview with an expert for adapting materials for deaf and hard of hearing people. The results showed that public libraries still have a lot to do for this type of users, and that the deaf and hard of hearing people can also contribute a lot to the change for the better.
