The graduation thesis is based on research conducted by social workers with experience in inta and intercountry adoptions procedures in the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Croatia, and by researching the professional literature of social work related to adoption procedures. The emphasis is on the analysis of the process of intercountry adoptions and the issues that this area brings. In the theoretical part, I presented the international legislation in the field of adoptions, described the adoption procedures in the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Croatia and explained the perception of adoption from the point of view of children, potential parents and social workers. In the methodological part, I analyzed the interviews I conducted with ten social workers with experience of the adoption process itself. The diploma thesis shows a comparison between the adoption procedures in both republics. In the last part of the thesis, I summarized the findings of the research and presented suggestions for improvement, especially in the field of more appropriate education of social workers.
