Abstract
Prvič v zgodovini so ZDA aktivirale 5. Talibani zasedajo velik del države in so v zadnjih letih pridobili moč in vpliv.

Title:U.S. WAR IN AFGHANISTAN
Abstract:
The event that shook the world caused the longest war in American history. The Afghan war is also the first serious conflict in which the United States has been involved. The attack on Afghanistan took place less than a month after the terrorist attacks in New York. The main demand of the USA was for the Taliban to extradite Osama bin Laden, who was considered the main mastermind of the terrorist attacks. For the first time in history, the United States has activated the Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, which invokes mutual assistance in the event of an attack on a member of the alliance. The U.S. military was part of the operation ISAF under the NATO command, which is considered to be the largest military operation in modern times. The presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan with the end of Operation Enduring Freedom has fallen sharply since 2014. Since 2014, Operation Freedom’s Sentinel has been underway. In the 19 years that the war has been going on, the situation in Afghanistan has not improved significantly. In the period since the initial attack on Afghanistan, guerrilla fighting by the Taliban has risen sharply. The U.S., along with its allies, has failed to combat such Taliban tactics effectively. Due to corrupt deals a lot of money, intended for the rebuilding of Afghanistan, has gone into private pockets, and the political situation in Afghanistan has contributed to the inability to reach a speedy ceasefire agreement with the Taliban. The Taliban occupy a large part of the country and have gained power and influence in recent years. The hope for a more stable future comes from the signing of a peace deal between the U.S. and the Taliban, which was signed this year. The diploma thesis analyses the timeline of the war and complements the findings of other diploma theses on this topic.
