Due to the constant changes in the economy, companies have to constantly analyse the past business, monitor the situation and business performance of the competition and implement good practices in future decisions. Financial analysis is the basis for assessing the economic situation, telling us whether a company is stable, liquid and profitable. As the market is constantly changing, companies need to be able to adapt and helping themselves with business analysis.
In my thesis, I focused on financial analysis of the business. It is carried out based on business results, financial position and cash flows of the company. I have presented various definitions of the terms business analysis, financial analysis, business indicators and performance analysis.
The research within the diploma thesis focuses on the financial analysis of the operations of the Union Group d.d. I performed it based on an analysis method and analysed three basic financial statements: balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement. I calculated two performance indicators, profitability and economy. With benchmarking I compared Union Hotels Group d.d. to its competition from the industry from 2014 to 2018. I also found out the financial position and performance of the company from 2008 to 2018 and focused on the problem of the financial crisis and the change of leadership.
The results of the analysis show that the financial position and performance of the company are positive and successful, as the company has been operating economically and profitably over the years, despite a slightly worse picture due to the economic crisis. The thesis serves the employees of the selected company to make the right decisions in the future of the company.
