Introduction: Balanced vaginal flora is able to put forth many information about gynaecological health of women. In a time of menstrual bleeding, women especial care for intimate hygiene. In that process, there are many different products that they may use, for example, menstrual pads, tampons or a menstrual cup. Purpose: In this thesis, we have presented which feminine hygiene products, such as tampons, menstrual pads/sanitary napkins, menstrual cup and other accessories which protect the underwear, have an effect on the health of vaginal flora and what that effect is. Methods: For this research, we used a descriptive method with a review of the bibliography. The search of resources took place between March and April of 2020 in databases PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science. The system of collecting articles for this research has been presented with PRISMA flow diagram. In thesis we have included 15 articles. Results: Vaginal flora in reproduction period changes in a course of one cycle and it also varies from individual to individual. There are numerous representatives of lacto bacteria in vaginal flora of which the level drops during the menstrual bleeding and those are temporarily replaced by high levels of other microorganisms. Certain microorganisms develop and expand on tampons and on menstrual cups. Despite that, many such colonies did not seem to exceed the limits of physiological state. Microorganisms also react differently to various materials from which the feminine hygiene products are made of. Injuries that women have noticed with the use of tampons were mostly connected to irritation, itching and soreness. Soreness and irritation have also been reported by women who used sanitary pads, but the percent of bacterial vaginosis did not vastly differ between women who used sanitary pads and those who did not. Vaginal pH value mostly affected women who used tampons only. Contrasting that, the effect of the menstrual cup on heightened pH got rejected by the researches. Discussion and Conclusion: After the overview of the bibliography, we have discovered that there were no sufficient researches done on the subject of direct effects of feminine hygiene products and vaginal flora. We concluded that menstrual cup is the best feminine hygiene product, because it does not heighten the vaginal pH and there are also no indications that any spread of vaginal bacteria occurs, as oppose to studies of menstrual pads/sanitary pads on which those bacteria do spread. In comparison to tampons and menstrual pads or sanitary pads, the menstrual cup is also economically fore women and for earth ecologically the better choice.
