Abstract

Title:
Role of family reading on children's storytelling
Abstract:
Family reading is an activity which has an important role in a child's emotional, cognitive, social and speaking development. It is a time when the child can relax around their loved ones and at the same time develop their storytelling abilities. It is very important that we set a good example for the child from an early age and create optimal situations in which the child learns and develops; meanwhile, we should encourage it to do so. In the theoretical part I have presented family reading, reading literacy and the characteristics of the child's storytelling. I have also explained the role that family reading has in the child's storytelling. In the empirical part I have also researched the importance of family reading in the child's storytelling. Through research it was questioned whether the difference of the storytelling abilities of those children who substantially read with their parents and those who scarcely read are large or negligible. I also tried to discover whether the level of coherence and the level of cohesiveness in children's stories are comparable. I have concluded that family reading undoubtedly has an important role in the child's storytelling. I also noticed differences in the structure of children's stories. Through analysis, I have discovered that the level of cohesiveness and the level of coherence in children's stories are comparable.
