Beekeeping is an increasingly important component of sustainable development. Bees are living creatures about which we know a lot, but we still have a lot to learn. Bees are very sensitive to weather conditions and pollution. Beekeeping requires a lot of knowledge while beeing physically demanding. Working with many bee families and today's fast pace of life, time can be short.
To facilitate work of beekeepers we decided to develop a prototype for remote measurements of certain parameters in beehives using affordable hardware and software. We made a system based on Arduino developing board on which we have installed temperature and humidity sensors. A part from that we also used a personal computer to record sound and weight. On the basis of the data collected, we can assess the condition of the colonies without physically entering the hives or bee families.
Helpful information is available from the results of researchers from all over the world.
The final product of the dissertation is the setup of the prototype system. This, data and experience gathered will provide a basis for further development of remote monitoring of bee families.
