Abstract
Vsi sodelujoči so uporabniki mobilnega telefona.

Title:Elderly and the use of internet : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Population ageing is a problem encountered all around the world. Many research has shown that advanced technologies make an important contribution to the quality of life for elderlies. The internet acts as an important part of everyone's life, including the older generations. It is used as a means of communication between people, helps strengthen collaboration, provides multiple ways of learning and interaction between people, in all areas. Purpose: We wanted to find out how many elderlies use the internet, which content they search for the most, whether they are familiar with social media and with dangers associated with the use of the internet. Methods: For this purpose, we used an anonymous survey questionnaire which was customized especially for the elderlies (larger font and contrasts). We included elderlies older than 65 years, capable of understanding and answering questions; they also had an option to decline cooperation. The questionnaires were divided between family and friends with a request to be completed by persons older than 65 years. The survey was held between January and March 2020. Questions were of an open-ended and closed-ended type. We used 110 completed questionnaires. Results: Most of the elderlies were between 65 and 69 years old. Regarding education, the majority have finished secondary school as well as most of them live in the city. The results have shown that 74 % of respondents use computers while 65 % of them use e-mail. Only 34 % of respondents are online shoppers. All participants use mobile phones. Only 12 % of the respondents have lost their phones or (have) been a victim of theft. 51 % of them can change the password on their phone/e-mail/social media account while 38 % share their password with other people. The dangers of the internet are known to 59 % of respondents. 32 % of participants have attended an internet and computer safety course while 64 % of them would like to attend more courses of such nature. Discussion and conclusion: Nowadays the access to technology has risen amongst all generations and for that reason, the need for computer and internet studies between older population has been growing.
