Abstract

Title:The analysis of vowels and sentence intonation in talk shows and news reports on Radio Koper
Abstract:
Speech of Primorska region is known for its characteristic sentence intonation and speech melody. The pronunciation of middle vowels is also different from that in literary language, as it is broader than the literary norm. With the instrumental analysis of vowels and sentence intonation in talk shows and news reports on Radio Koper, I checked in my master's thesis whether dialect affiliation is detected in the speech of presenters and readers and to what extent. I have found that dialect is perceived in both free and read speech, but the proportion of dialect is lower in reading. I also found that the intonation flows in free speech are very diversified, the differences between the lowest and highest value are large, thus confirming the Primorska melody or singing intonation. In speech on Radio Koper, the dialect of Primorska region is thus detected in conversational and informative broadcasts, but to such an extent that it is not disturbing for the listener. Radio Koper thus maintains a high culture of speech.
