Abstract
Bolniki s parkinsonovo boleznijo ga zato radi obiskujejo in izvajajo dlje časa.

Title:Effects of tango dance in patients with Parkinson's disease : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative condition, which leads to a shortage of dopamine in the brain and causes a development of motor and non-motor symptoms as an effect. Physical activity is as important as pharmacological treatment in Parkinson’s patients. Tango is considered to be an appropriate and comfortable therapeutic activity for Parkinson’s patients, since it has physical, mental and emotional benefits and it improves the quality of life. Purpose: To identify any possible influence of tango on the functioning of Parkinson’s patients. Methods: We used a descriptive method of scientific researching. The literature search was performed in following databases: PEDro, PubMED, Cochrane Library and Cobiss. Results: According to inclusion criteria, we included seven studies in our overview. Findings of the studies suggest that tango dancing has a positive effect on Parkinson’s patients. Studies showed improvements in the general symptoms of the disease; balance, walking, mobility and fine motor skills. Implementation of tango in patients was more effective than waltz or foxtrot and more effective than performing individual exercises in a home environment. Discussion and conclusion: The results of the studies show that Argentine tango is a suitable form of activity for Parkinson’s patients. Besides having the effect on the general symptoms of the disease like tremors, bradykinesia and rigidity, it also improves motor skills like balance, walking and general mobility. Participation in tango also encourages socializing, increases patient’s motivation and their general mood. This is why Parkinson’s patients enjoy tango classes and participate for a long-term.
