Abstract

Title:Establishment of the University of Ljubljana and the Analysis of its First Enrolled Students
Abstract:
The master's thesis deals with forms of higher education studies on today's Slovenian soil until the beginning of the 20th century, the efforts to establish the University of Ljubljana and a comparative analysis of its first enrolled students at the faculties. The theoretical part of the thesis covers the history of higher education on today's Slovenian soil from the 17th century onwards, a description of initiatives and efforts to establish a Slovenian university at the beginning of the 20th century and finally a description of events after the First World War when the Slovenian nation got its alma mater. The latter description highlights the work of the university commission and other important people who proved themselves in the »fight« for the university – among them Majaron (president of the university commission), Verstovšek (chairman of Ministry of Worship and Education in the National and later Provincial Government for Slovenia), Davidović (Minister of Education) and other Slovenian politicians. The empirical part of the thesis answers how many students were enrolled, which was the prevalent gender in the enrollment, how old were the enrolled students, where they came from according to place of birth (nationality), did these students previously study at another university and what type of studies they chose (full-time/part-time).
