Within the context of European Round Robin Test we were determining the thickness of dry film of various coating systems on 3 different wooden substrates (spruce, beech, meranti). The samples were prepared by the Austrian Holzforschung Institute; the measurements of the cross cut wood with a microscope and ultrasound method were carried out in the Laboratory for Surface Treatments at the Biotechnical Faculty, and in several accredited European testing facilities. The test results were analyzed and used to find reasons for the eventual differences in the measurements. We found many influences that affect the accuracy of the measurements; the human factor, the use of different equipment, and the measurement uncertainty of the instruments. From the findings it was clear that our test results, in comparison to the test results of other laboratories, had less variation. They are somewhere in the middle of all measurements, which is a reflection of the tenacity of our work.
