At first, disasters were analysed as a separate field, outside the social frame. Sociologists emphasized the importance of social system dynamics and its changes, which have a substantial influence on social vulnerability, resilience, response and human behavior in the event of disasters. Insight into the social structure and cultural diversity immensely helps with the understanding of the disaster flow. In the concept of the social construction of disasters, society represents an essential element of the analysis. Floods are among top natural disasters on the scale of damage severity in Slovenia. Floods can cause material damage and result in the loss of life. The aim of this master’s thesis is the analysis of the circumstances of the loss of life in flood events in Slovenia, in the period between 1926 and 2014 and its classification. Demographic data (gender and age) will be included in the analysis.
