Abstract

Title:Effect of a training programme with a reduced hoop diameter rim on three point shooting performance in young basketball players
Abstract:
We can describe basketball today as a dynamic game with increased number of three-point shots within last few years. Although it is important to know, what effects to a successful shot from distance the most. The aim of this study is to analyse the efficiency of training of three-point shots at the basket with a reduced hoop diameter on a sample of 11 young basketball players, aged from 15 to 17. Each one of the participants performed 10 practices of three point shot with series of 20, 25, 30,35 and 40 shoots on regular rim. In second part of research all participants performed 20 practices on reduced hoop diameter rim with exact number of shoots. Meanwhile participants were tested several times during research with 94Fifty technology (smart ball). Smart ball is a regulation basketball with sensors inside. Those sensors measure shot and dribbling and send data over Bluetooth to smart - phone or computer. With 94Fifty technology we could follow progress during research. Contrary to the findings of some other authors, training with a special basket with a reduced hoop diameter has not proven to be effective. The performance of three-point shots did not improve and the angle of incidence of the ball at the basket did not increase because of reduced hoop diameter.

Keywords:basketball, three point shot, angle of entry, precision.
