Abstract
Sintetizirani so bili štirje novi bifenilni analogi z različnimi elektron-privlačnimi skupinami: karbonilno, 1,3-dikarbonilno, malononitrilno in oxo-piran-karbonitrilno. Spojine emitirajo svetlobo različnih valovnih dolžin, kar kaže na pomemben vpliv elektron-privlačnih skupin na optične lastnosti molekul. Produkti so bili sintetizirani s kombinacijo reakcij spajanja po Suzukiju, Claisenove in Knoevenagelove kondenzacije. Pripravljeni analogi bi bili lahko v nadaljnjih raziskavah uporabljeni kot molekulske sonde za detekcijo tau agregatov v krvi bolnikov z nevrodegenerativnimi boleznimi.

Title:Synthesis of biphenyl derivatives having electron-withdrawing groups
Abstract:
In this work, I successfully synthesised four new biphenyl analogues with different electron-accepting groups: carbonyl, 1,3-dicarbonyl, malononitrile, and oxo-pyran-carbonitrile. A large difference in the wavelength of the emitted light was observed – suggesting a significant effect of electron-withdrawing groups on optical properties of molecules. The products were synthesised using a combination of Suzuki cross-coupling, Claisen, and Knoevenagel condensation reactions. The derivatives prepared in this work could be potentially used as molecular probes for the detection of tau aggregates in the blood of patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
