The diploma thesis presents technology for the transportation of coal and iron ore from the port of Koper to iron works Voestalpine Linz, by rail. The theoretical part shows the development of the iron industry and cargo characteristics, as well as the starting point for the transport of coal and iron ore through Slovenia. The following is an accurate representation of transport routes, transport vehicles and both, initial and final terminals. Based on a survey of the existing situation, some possibilities for improving or optimizing the use of train paths are presented, with the aim of carrying more cargo with the same traffic volume. Although the increase in efficiency is not very pronounced, differences at the annual level can nevertheless be significant from an operational and financial point of view. The findings are presented in technological terms, since real numbers and amounts cannot be talked about due to the unavailability of business data.
