Employees are an important part of the organisations because they are contributing to its goals and affect the business results with their knowledge and experiences. In the time of the economic growth, there is a shortage of human capital available on the labour market. For that reason, organisations are forced to cope with the challenges of development and training of employees. In my master’s thesis I was examining the development and training of miner employees in the Coal Mine Velenje. Because of the reduced enrolment in the mining high school programs in Slovenia, the company will not be able to recruit enough miners in the future from the labour market. Thus the miners will have to be trained inside the company. For that purpose, I conducted semistructured interviews with ten employees that occupy different positions in the company. I researched how the changes in the labour market affect the recruitment in the company, how employees are being recruited, which methods of employee development are being used and which will be the biggest challenges regarding development and training in the future. Research revealed the effect of the current economic growth on the recruitment in the company, because they do not have many options for employee selection, which consequently affects the drop of quality in employees in the recent years. Labour shortage is visible the most in acquiring the mining profiles. Company acquires these profiles through scholarships and part-time education of employees. Retraining of employees through part-time education and short education programs (national vocational qualification) will be the best solutions for the company's employee recruitment.
