Abstract
Za lažje razumevanje same analize, sem dodala povzetke zgodb obravnavanih del. Vzela sem naslednje slovenske romane: Hišo Marije Pomočnice Ivana Cankarja, Filio ni doma in Ptičjo hišo Berte Bojetu – Boete, roman Zaznamovana Nedeljke Pirjevec, angleški antiutopični roman Margaret Atwood Deklina zgodba, delo Kot da me ni hrvaške avtorice Slavenke Drakulić ter češki roman Temna ljubezen Alexandre Berkove.

Title:Rape in the contemporary novel
Abstract:
In this thesis I analyze rape as a plot device in the contemporary novel. Firstly, I explain the term novel, focusing on the definition and its characteristics. The types of novels discussed in my thesis are the contemporary novel, the modificated traditional novel and the anti-utopian novel. Secondly, I research sexual assault and rape as a theme during wartime. The second half of my thesis consists of the analysis of selected novels. Throughout the analysis I emphasize the motif of rape in selected novels as well as other key features. In addition, there is a section explaining narrative techniques used in novels. For easier understanding, I include short summaries of the works analyzed in my thesis. I closely examine rape as a plot device in Slovene novels Hiša Marije Pomočnice (The House of the Mary Help of Christians) by Ivan Cankar, Filio Ni Doma (Filio Is Not At Home) and Ptičja Hiša (The Birdhouse) by Berta Bojetu-Boete, Zaznamovana (Scarreřlu5izd) by Nedeljka Pirjevec as well as the English bestseller The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, Croatian novel Kao Da Me Nema (As If I Am Not There) by Slavenka Drakulić and a novel Temná Láska (Dark Love) by a Czech author Alexandra Berkova.

Keywords:Key words: contemporary novel, modificated traditional novel, anti-utopia, rape, sexual abuse, sexual assault during wartime
