The main purpose of the research was to elaborate a proposal of forest management plan for the Panovec forest area near Nova Gorica. The fundamental starting points for a multi-objective forest management of the urban forest were described, along with the important characteristics of the Panovec forest area as well as its historical development. According to the surveys andcounting the visitors, Panovec is highly important for the local population(87 % survey respondents visits Panovec at least once per week). Visitors are most interested in the recreational and educational role, where asproduction role seem to have much lower importance for the visitors. A proposal of forest management plan for Panovec forest area is based on the results of the survey, previous research in Panovec forest area, legal and professional documents and the professional opinion of the employees of the local forest management unit Gorica of the Slovenian Forest Service. The plan comprehends a development strategy of the area, an expected problems and guidelines for planning multiple forest land use and forest management. It also includes projects with proposing solutions for cases of conflicts in forest land use. The legal document that would regulate the status of forest management represents the basis for successful forest management.
