Abstract

Title:Road widening and widening of clearence of a road cross-section in horizontal curves on the example of Mala voda forest road in FMU Dobrova
Abstract:
The two elements of forest road that ensure safe transportation of long wood are road widening and widening of clearence of a road cross-section in horizontal curves. In this graduation thesis it has been tested, whether these two road elements enable different log trucks to drive on the forest road Mala voda, whether it is possible to transport long wood with a stinger type log truck on it.Comparison between different methods for calculating road widening was made. With field work the needed geometrical elements for calculating radii and central angles of the curves as well as both widenings have been measured. Through analysis, it has been established, that the current elements of the road do not allow the passing through for any of the log trucks and trailer combi-nations, that regarding the widening of clearence of a road cross-section, it is possible to transport long wood by Slovenian method, but not by Austrian method, and that similarities between 4 dif-ferent methods exist. The two methods, that give bigger road widenings than other methods are USA and Slovenian method. Comparison of methods with modern computer program methods for road widening in horizontal curves used in this thesis has been suggested, to determine if an up-date is needed. For widening of clearence of a forest road cross-section in horizontal curves, anal-ysis of wood length, transported on forest roads is suggested to determine, which of the two meth-ods is more appropriate, and if this widening is necessary at all.
