Abstract

Title:The dormouse (Glis glis) in Gorski kotar
Abstract:
Grey dormouse (Glis glis) is a common species in forests in Gorski Kotar, which plays an important part of hunting and ecological aspect. The survey of dormice's biological characteristics and its hunting is made in the thesis. Dormice's sex and age structure and the successfulness of hunt are analysed. The number of dormice is dependent on beech mast fructification. Based on the analysis of the data obtained it has been found that the sex ration is equal. Hunting young dormice is more common since their search for food lasts longer. Dormouse hunt is successful in beech mast years and on the area, overgrown by mature trees since dormice has enough food from the beginning of hunting season until the end of October. Dormouse is an important part of the forest ecosystem and an interesting hunting species, so it applies to preserve it and pass on the tradition of dormice hunt to younger generations.
