The thesis explores how student work influences the entry of young people into the labour market in Slovenia. I am interested whether the student work has an impact on the easier and successful transition of young graduates to the labour market, or whether student work is an obstacle for young graduates. By writing my graduation thesis, I want to explore the positive and negative effects of student work, according to the opinion of students and young people. I am also interested in the opinion of employers, so I want to get information from them, more specifically, I am interested in the impact of student work on recruiting new employees in an organization or company. First, I write about the differences between student work and regular employment relationships to better understand further research.
The empirical part of the thesis presents the effects of student work when young people graduate and enter the labour market and seek regular employment, as well as the impact of student work when employers choose to admit new employees in their work process. The positive features of student work in the entry of young people into the labour market include the acquisition of work experience and work habits, which is a competitive advantage in applying for a job post because they have practical knowledge in addition to theoretical knowledge. Through student work, young people are already able to enter various industries during their education, so they can test themselves in different work environments and processes, meet different people, connect with many employers and secure a job after graduation.
