Abstract

Title:Reliability, validity and ceiling effect of the Slovenian translation of the spinal cord innjury functional ambulantion inventory
Abstract:
Background: Spinal cord injury functional ambulation inventory (SCI-FAI) is a standardised outcome measure for assessment of kinematics, assistive devices and mobility. The purpose of our study was to evaluate intra-rater and inter-rater reliability, concurrent validity and ceiling effect of the Slovenian translation of SCI-FAI. Methods: 30 patients with incomplete spinal cord injury participated in the study. We calculated intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) for both reliability measures. For assessing validity, we calculated Pearsons (r) and Spearmans (ro) correlation coefficients. Ceiling effect was reported as percentage of participants achieving maximal possible score. Results: We found good intra-rater reliability (ICC = 0.82–0.86) and low (ICC = 0.46) to moderate (ICC = 0.61) inter-rater reliability of the SCI-FAI. Concurrent validity with walk tests was good (ro = 0.61–0.62) to excellent (r = 0.98–0.99; ro = 0.79–0.92); 47 % of the participants achieved maximal possible score for assistive devices assessment, 73 % for mobility assessment. Conclusions: Other authors also observed good intra-rater reliability, good validity and ceiling effect of the SCI-FAI. Because of low to moderate inter-rater reliability, we recommend that gait assessment with SCI-FAI is performed by the same physiotherapist before and after treatment.
