determine the wellbeing of the mother and the child, happen. A lack of proper care in this period can lead to a poor health condition for both of them. The community nursing service is responsible for the care of the mother and the child. Purpose: The aim of this research was to find out what information new mothers in Maribor were given about the postpartum period, and which nursing interventions they received from the community nursing service. Methods: A descriptive and an empirical method of research were used. The empirical part was based on quantitative methodology using a causal non-experimental method. A structured survey questionnaire was used. Women living in Maribor and its surroundings, who had given birth at least once since 2016 were invited to participate. A snowball sampling technique was used. Results: The care for the mother included examination of the uterus involution in 27 %, a lochia examination in 19 % of the cases and perineum examination in 53 % of the women who had a perineal wound. 97 % of the visits included informing the mother about proper care for the umbilical cord stump, and 81 % of them rated their trust in the child health nurse or midwife with four or five points. Discussion and conclusion: The examination of the uterus involution, lochia and the perineum are the elements that should be included in the home visits. Despite these elements being specified by the regulations, the actual state is different. In contrast to that, the information about umbilical cord care is included in a large percentage of the visits, which is encouraging. The respondents showed trust in the community care nurses and midwives. There is a lot of issues that need improvement in the postpartum service by the community nursing service. This could be improved by changing regulation and including midwives, who are expert in postpartum period, in community nursing services.
