The first part of the master's thesis presents library science in Slovenian region between the wars (1918⠒1940), which forms of libraries worked during this time, with emphasis on the development of the National and University Library in Ljubljana and the University Library Maribor. During this period, in 1931, an association of Yugoslav librarians was formed, also in which operated the Ljubljana section. Presented is the organization of work in libraries and the processes of procurement and processing of materials, as well as the rules and instructions for cataloging, the methods of material processing, such as inventorying, determining signatures and arranging materials, charging system, and receiving a legal deposit before the modern law on receiving a legal deposit. Presented are also the main librarians who worked in Slovenia in the period between the two wars and those who had a great influence on the development of library science in Slovenia. The second part of the master's thesis, the research part, describes the comparison of Pirjevec's theory, which he describes in the book Knjižnice in knjižničarsko delo from 1940 and the professional work in the present-day National and University Library in Ljubljana and the Maribor University Library, namely to what extent Pirjevec's theory was actually applied during the period between the wars. Comparing the theoretical part of the assignment with the professional work focuses only on the cataloging and library catalogs in both libraries.
