Abstract

Title:Usage of invasive plants in beekeeping
Abstract:
An increasing number of invasive non–native plant species are widespread in Slovenia, and there is increasing research of their potential use. Among several proven ways of using them, so far no one has thoroughly explored or fully demonstrated their honey potential. Based on a review of our and foreign literature and based on our own observations, we investigated and presented 12 invasive non–native plant species and found that some of them already produce good quality honey and good yields at the time when domestic plants flowering has stopped. They can enrich bee pasture and enable the development of bee families. Some of them could play an even more important role in beekeeping in the future.

Keywords:invasive plants, beekeping, yield honey, honey conditions, own experiences
