Introduction: The World Health Organization recommends that the infant should be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months and, with adding healthy complementary foods, up to at least 2 years. Feeling that a mother has too little milk has been proven to be the most common reason for abandoning exclusive breastfeeding. Purpose: The purpose is to find out the proportion of mothers who feel that they have too little milk, how important it is the support of health professionals and significant others to develop this feeling, and how this feeling affects breastfeeding in Slovenia. Methods: A descriptive and empirical method of work was used. In the empirical part of the diploma, the data was collected quantitatively through a structured questionnaire and qualitatively through the stories provided. A sample for the quantitative survey represented all mothers, whether they breastfeed their babies or not. For the purposes of qualitative research we have taken the stories of women that felt the feeling that they have too little milk. Results: In the time of breastfeeding 60 % of mothers have the feeling that they have not had enough milk for their baby's needs. Because of this feeling, more than half of them started adding milk formula, added more milk formulas or completely switched to formula feeding. For the most part, mothers have a feeling that they have not had enough milk because of their baby's behavior or because of the feeling of empty breasts. Mothers, who in the time of breastfeeding felt the feeling that they have not had enough milk for the needs of their baby in most (44.67 %), felt that this was the consequence of poor support and lack of knowledge. Content analysis of the stories reveals that mother feels guilt and disappointment long after the failed breastfeeding period. Discussion and conclusion: Feeling that a mother has too little milk for her baby's need is the most common reason for stopping exclusive breastfeeding in Slovenia. Preventing mothers from having the feeling of too little milk could be achieved with better education for women in this area and better educating of healthcare professionals about breastfeeding and importance of their support for the mothers.
