Abstract

Title:
Reliability of tensiomyographic measurements of skeletal muscles contractility in human – literature review : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Tensiomyography (TMG) is a novel, non-invasive, relatively simple and affordable technique for measuring specific parameters of a single muscle. Measurements are acquired with a sensor placed on the muscle belly, which collects information about radial displacement of the muscle, created by single electrical impulse. Purpose: To investigate if TMG is a reliable technique for measuring specific characteristics of skeletal muscles. Methods: The method, used in this diploma work, was a literature review. Articles included in our diploma work were selected according to a set of criteria. Results: Six articles about TMG reliability were included in our diploma work. All six articles showed good to excellent reliability of TMG. Discussion: Results of all six articles showed that TMG has a good short-term repeatability as well as long-term repeatability and it also has good inter-rater reliability. The usability of TMG is wide. TMG can be used to detect muscle imbalance which could lead to increase of hazard for skeletomuscular injuries, as well as in planning rehabilitation programs for individuals. Conclusion: Because TMG has a good reliability, wide filed of usability and provides accurate information on contractility of skeletal muscle, we think that physiotherapists should use TMG more often and by doing so improve the quality of their work.
