Abstract

Title:Contrastive analysis of English, Italian and Slovenian vocabulary with an English-Italian-Slovenian dictionary in the field of winemaking and viticulture.
Abstract:
The purpose of my MA thesis is to analyze and compare English, Italian and Slovenian specialized vocabulary in the field of winemaking and viticulture. The purpose of the analytical part is to collect and present the vocabulary that is most used in this field. The terminology of winemaking and viticulture is presented in a specialized English – Italian – Slovenian dictionary. The selection of headwords was based on a specialized corpus that we compiled from reliable sources. We observed how the English term was used in different texts and translated into Slovene and Italian. As the winemaking and viticulture industries are widespread, we can assume that many terms will be left untranslated or remain in the original language (usually French). We suggested translation for the headwords that did not have an equivalent in each language.

Keywords:winemaking, viticulture, contrastive analysis of specialized vocabulary, translation strategies, specialized lexicography
