In the theoretical part of the master's thesis I will focus on different sources and literature that deals with the concept of picture books. I will present different concepts of the picture book, I will touch on the composition of the picture book and the term multimodal literacy, I will study the classification of picture books, I will look for different perspectives in picture books, I will determine what the words "quality picture book" or "poor quality picture book" mean, I will ask myself a question, can critical thinking develop with the picture book. At the end of the theoretical part I will list and briefly present some picture books of each period.
In the empirical part of the master's thesis, through quantitative research, I will find out whether teachers use picture books when teaching, how often and how they use picture books, what the students have to say about picture books and what the teachers mean by the words 'quality picture book' or 'poor quality picture book'. I will derive my findings through a closed-ended questionnaire. I will add a scale of questions to the questionnaire to get teachers' views on well-defined picture books. I will include 1st grade teachers in the research.
