Abstract

Title:Between singlehood and modern "dating": Impact of social networks on getting to know potential partners in Slovenia
Abstract:
The internet and social media has penetrated the most intimate parts of our lives, including our modern understanding of partnership. The master's thesis deals with the different understanding of the importance of partnership in contemporary society, and above all represents the social understanding of singleness and shows the attempts of individuals to find a suitable partner with the help of modern technologies. An analysis of the specific experiences of Slovenian users of different cognition portals and applications shows that they facilitate certain cognition processes, but at the same time they also reveal the dissatisfaction and distress that such cognition aids have on users. Contemporary ideology that promotes individual responsibility for one's own life choices intensifies the guilt and anxiety of singles in Slovenia as well. The task illustrates the experiences of singles, outlines different motivations for using dating apps and portals, and especially draws attention to the hitherto known lesser effects of such cognitive strategies. Cognitive portals and applications, therefore, impose an even greater sense of responsibility on individuals for their own (partnership happiness), which reinforces guilt and anxiety and produces a deeper sense of non-belonging and deviation from social conventions.
