Abstract

Title:Work efficiency and power consumption of battery chainsaws
Abstract:
Internal combustion engines used in chainsaws have many unwanted influences, mainly environment pollution with exhaust gases and detrimental effects on the worker’s health due to effects of vibrations, noise and carbon monoxide inhalation. With the appearance of cordless electric chainsaws, which do not require a wired connection to the electrical network, it is possible to use chainsaws with an electric motor in forestry as well. To test these chainsaws in real-life forest conditions three different cordless chainsaws were compared to a gas-powered chainsaw. In three days of work 28,43m3 of round spruce wood were produced. The average work performance of battery-powered chainsaw was 2,18m3 /h, while gas-powered chainsaw produced 6,34m3/h. It was demonstrated that the effect of the gas-powered chainsaw was significantly greater than that of a battery saw, however, the battery-powered saws are more effective for tree diameters lower than 15cm.
