Abstract

Title:Mental health and psychopathological symptoms
Abstract:
Given the prevalence of mental illness around the world, it is important to gain a deeper insight into the dynamics of individual's mental health so that we can identify vulnerable groups and to contribute to wider access to assistance to them. Complete health is defined as the absence of physical and mental illness in the presence of positive aspects of mental health. The purpose of this research was to find out which factors affect the mental health of the population of Slovenia. Depression Anxiety Stress Scales and Positive Mental Health Scale were used. The study involved 300 participants. Findings suggest that the positive mental health of the study participants varies significantly with the variables age, material satisfaction, physical health, gender and employment status. Negative mental health of the study participants differs significantly with material status, physical health, gender, employment status and region of residence. The correlation coefficient between variables positive mental health and psychopathology is -0,55. The findings suggest that demographic factors represent risk for mental health problems and have impact on lower positive mental health. The results show that it is reasonable to focus on increasing mental health promotion and developing support plans for vulnerable groups. Further research could cover larger sample of the population of Slovenia and include additional health indicators.
