In the theoretical part of the diploma thesis, I researched the psycho-physical development of
children and the factors that influence the development of children. I obtained data from the
research part, with the help of qualitative method (in depth interview with educators of different
educational institutions). The content covers the observation of children and the research of the
profession which deals with the education of children and their different methods. Public,
Montessori and Waldorf approaches are presented with a greater emphasis on the Waldorf
approach, as this was also one of the design principles. I also took safety into account, as I
included the certification standard of playground equipment SIST:EN1176:2018 in
collaboration with the Testing and Certification Center of the Biotechnical Faculty Ljubljana,
Department for Wood Science, including the experts in the field of architecture and
construction.
Thus, I wanted to build a playground climber that will encourage children to move, which is
first and foremost fun and pleasant for them. At the same time the playground climber will
strengthen their ability to balance, strength, coordination and socialization in a pleasing way.
Taking into account all the design and safety requirements, a playground climber was created.
